History of our STEM Program In 2012-13, HCS partnered with Justin W. Capp Engineering and Design to launch its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program. The program began with a Lego Robotics class where students learn design, build, and program robots. Students benefit from the presence of Engineers and Techs from JWC who teach the classes with the Hickman staff. Students learn STEM from engineering professionals.
In 2014, again with the help of Justin W. Capp Engineering and Design, HCS launched our STEM Maker Garage. Hickman Maker Garage is a space where young people and their families can learn and share their interests. Where the lines between science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics are blurred through students’ efforts to MAKE. A place where 21st Century Skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity valued equally as knowledge. We provide an environment of participatory learning where it is OK to make mistakes and where one is encouraged to learn at one's own pace.
