Our fall "Maker" class was such a success that we're in the midst of a repeat performance for students who could not be accommodated last fall. This past week K-2nd graders tried their hand at making sidewalk chalk, 3rd-5th graders played with "squishy circuits", and the 6th-8th graders learned all about "brushbots." For additional photos, please click here to see our STEM album on Facebook .
On Tuesday and Thursday of this week, many of our students participated in the "mixed media" art workshops, where they used paint and mosaic to created textured collages. Additional photos are posted in our Facebook album, "Art". (Note that registration is now open for the March workshop--link is posted below.)
Registration now being taken for the art workshop with Mrs. Petersen on Thursday, March 13th. Students will be exploring the element of space using one point perspective. Art workshops are for students grades 3 through 8. Click here to register.
Our keynote speaker -- Sarah Stevenson -- created our Literature Anthology cover on the theme of Discovering Your Voice. She is the author of The Latte Rebellion, Underneath and The Truth Against the World.
Sarah's keynote presentation focused on the journey of a writer ... the challenges, craft and persistence needed to bring writing from an idea to a published piece.
Sarah continued leading small groups of students to explore and practice the writing craft over three sessions during the morning and afternoon.
Our 16th Literary Conference was hosted on the Hickman campus. Over 150 students in grades 6-8 from 10 schools in our region participated in a day long conference devoted to the draft of writing. Students received an anthology of their submitted writing and will now read and apply a rubric score to each submitted piece.
"Walk Through History" days have been a part of our Social Studies program for many years. Today, students are once again "walking through" history! Take a peek!!
