In the summer of 2019, HCS obtained the official indoor target archery equipment and curriculum used by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) via a grant offered by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Indoor target archery is a safe, exciting sport that anyone can participate in, regardless of previous experience. Several of our teachers have participated in NASP Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) certification training and provide students with safety training, sportsmanship, and techniques toward achieving archery success. HCCD's NASP participation began with a pilot group of 7th and 8th graders from HCS in the spring of 2022.
We are thrilled to offer the opportunity for HMS students to join us in expanding the program! We plan to continue growing our team, and hope to join tournaments in the future! |
Who is Teaching Archery at HCS?HCS staff members Chantal Avant, Erynn Farmer, and Debbie Wiggins are our currently active NASP-Certified instructors. They completed the Basic Archery Instructor certification (BAI-1) program in summer of 2021. Additionally, Erynn Farmer and Debbie Wiggins completed BAI Trainer (BAIT-2) certification in summer of 2022, enabling them to provide the BAI-1 training to others. BAI Certification is required to provide archery instruction in schools, and teaches NASP procedures and curriculum, safety, and coaching strategies.
Who is NASP Archery For?Due to our small list of BAI-certified staff and limited space/time on campus, we are currently offering Archery to 6th-8th grade students from HCS and HMS on an invitation-only basis. HCS/HMS students participating in NASP do not need to have any prior experience with archery, and all necessary equipment is provided! Our coaches look forward to growing NASP within our district, and expanding the reach of this spectacular program to more of our school family!
