As a starting point for exploring the Central Sierras Mountain Habitat, take a step back to 1850’s California at Columbia State Historic Park just a few miles north of Sonora. Through the years, it has been a popular destination for HCS families who incorporate it into their California History studies. “Diggins” is one of their annual events, and we regularly have groups of students participate in that event. Their website (https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=552) provides details for much of the history of the area, as well as information about special events and educational opportunities.
On the Go Wear comfortable shoes, bring snacks unless you plan to spend time in the Candy Kitchen or eat at one of the many location available nearby. Visitors occasionally come dressed in period costume which might be fun to consider. Don’t forget photos and bingo!
