McHenry Mansion, Modesto

Come join us to tour the historic McHenry Mansion which is decorated for the Christmas holiday. The tour will include a presentation on Victorian life and Christmas customs, with a presentation of McHenry family history by the house groomsman. The Johnson’s will provide a costumed tour.
Remember your manners in the house. Don’t run, jump from the stairs, or touch the walls
or furniture. No food or drinks, please. Bring a camera for a picture in front of the Christmas tree in the Front Parlor at the end of the tour.
Reserve your spot for Tour #1 from 8:30 to 10:00 or Tour #2 from 10:30 to 12:15 on either day. Early arrivers for the 10:30 tour may need to wait in the garden until the Basement doors open.
Print and sign the Non-District Provided Transportation form and submit to Mrs. Johnson.
Meet and check in at the McHenry Mansion basement (through the garden gates, on the left side of the house). The bathrooms are in the basement.
Parking is available in the lot behind the Stanislaus County Library (across the street).
Within walking distance of the Mansion:
The Mansion Gift Store (906 15th Street) with a house history video is open from 12:00 to 4:00.
The McHenry Museum (1402 I Street) is open on Friday from 12:00 to 4:00.
The Stanislaus County Library (1500 I Street) is open Monday (2:00 - 8:00) and Friday (10:00 – 5:00).

San Juan Bautista Field Trip
Wednesday February 12, 2025 10:30 am Our trip to San Juan Bautista consists of a self-guided tour of the San Juan Bautista Mission at 10:00 and a ranger lead Mission Game at 12:00. The park is located on Second Street, between Washington and Mariposa Streets in San Juan Bautista. The mission is the 14th of the 21 California Missions and was founded in 1797. The Plaza Hotel was built in 1858, the Stables in 1861 and the Zanetta House/Plaza Hotel in 1868. Meet Mrs. Johnson at the Plaza area in the center of the park to check in. Submit the signed Non-District Transportation Form. Benito from the Mission will give us a short orientation to the mission grounds in the Mission Gift Shop at 10:00. You will be free to explore the mission environs as a family. Do not bring backpacks, food, or drinks into the mission and do not touch the walls, pillars, or railings. Students must stay with an adult, walk respectfully, and talk quietly. At 11:55, check in with Mrs. Johnson for the Mission Game in the plaza area. The program should last about 45 minutes. Before/after the Mission Game, eat your lunch and view the Stable area and the exhibits in the Zanetta House and Plaza Hotel. Please do not climb the trees in the park. Old Monterey Field Trip

Join us for a 90 ranger-led program in Monterey State Historic Park. The program will focus on Alta California industries (construction methods, candle making, maritime shipping, and cattle ranching).
Park where you can and check in with Mrs. Johnson at the open area in front of the Pacific House Museum by 9:50. Make sure that you have signed and submitted the Non-District Transportation Form. Meet Mrs. Johnson in front of the Pacific House Museum. The first half of the program will take place there. Students will help make adobe bricks and rolled beeswax candles. The second half of the day will take place in the Custom House (California’s oldest government build-ing) where students will learn about the hide trade and try their hand at lassoing. Students must be with a parent in the gift shop. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the artifacts in the Pacific House Museum, the wharf and/or the gardens behind the old buildings on the Walking Tour (maps available at the Museum desk).
