Math Festival
Math Festival is something that we've created for the 1st through 8th graders to experience as part of their morning classes on Tuesdays. For 30 minutes once a month, the classes visit the "festival", which consists of various work stations that provide challenges to mathematical thinking, using a variety of hands-on materials. The current festival theme is Number, where all activities relate to development of number sense. Facilitators are available at each station to assist students, but they do so by guiding the students' thinking, instead of just providing answers. We were introduced to the Math Festival curriculum by its creator, Paul Giganti from the CA Math Council. For more information about the Math Festival concept, visit their website. Within the site it is possible to navigate to the Number topic activities to learn specifics of what students do at the Math Festival. https://mathfestival.com
